This guide will explain step by step how to upgrade from Projectfork 2.0 to 2.1. Please read and follow this guide very carefully! If you are already using Projectfork 2.1, please read the "How to update 2.1" document instead.
Things you should know before the upgrade
The upgrade will overwrite every single file. Any code alterations will be lost. If you have manually modified the database tables (added/removed a field), the update may fail. The theme will be reset to the default one. This is so because other, third party themes may not be compatible with the new version. Mods will be disabled (not deleted) because they may not be compatible with the new version. The language will be set to "english" for all users because other 2.0 language files are only partially compatible with the new version.
1. Take a full site backup
The update from 2.0 to 2.1 performs a lot of file and database changes. If anything goes wrong at all, you could lose access to your data or even lose data altogether. Please create a backup of your database and files! And keep it too. Do not delete the backup after the upgrade (in case you experience problems any time after the upgrade).
2. Download Projectfork 2.1
Download the latest Projectfork 2.1 release (attached at the end of this document). Then unpack the content of the package into a temporary folder on your PC.
3. Upload the files
In the temporary folder you should see 1 folder and 3 files:
- "administrator" folder
- index.html
- projectfork.php
- projectfork.xml
Upload the administrator folder into your joomla root directory (there should be an "administrator" folder too) and overwrite all existing files. Then upload the 3 files from the temporary folder into "
4. Perform the update
Access your Joomla backend, then navigate to: Components -> Projectfork. The page will take a while to load, but when it's done you should see the updated UI and the new features. That was the final step in upgrading to Projectfork 2.1. If you experience any problems after the upgrade, please visit the forum.
