projectfork-rcPhew! The beta is out now, finally! And I can't tell you how excited I am about the fact that ProjectFork will soon be ready for production. In fact, Kyle and I planned on releasing the stable version in exactly two weeks from now (11/01). Until then, we still have things to do and a lot of bugs to fix. But let's talk about the current release first:

I've added an enormous amount of new and complex features, some of which are still under construction. Therefore the beta is running less stable than the previous versions. However I am confident that it will all work out as planned in the next two weeks. You can help ensure the stability of the system by reporting anything you find in the forum here.

New Features

As I've said before, there are a lot of new things to explore in the beta release. One of the biggest features is the incredible access system. It allows you to restrict access accross all sections/actions available. It is extremly sophisticated and there are 113 permissions to choose from! We now also have a new section called "Board". It's basically a pared-down Forum where you can create topics and people can reply to. Another big feature is the ability to comment on tasks and notes. Here is a (almost) complete list of the new features:

  • Added Access System
  • Added Board section
  • Added comment function for tasks and notes
  • Added avatar upload in profile
  • Added modular note details page
  • Added modular profile details page
  • Added ability to archive projects
  • Added ability to attach folders, files and notes to tasks
  • Added ability to approve projects
  • Added "events" panel to control panel
  • Added "tasks" panel to project details page
  • Added email notification for tasks
  • Added ability to request to join a project
  • Added ability to show projects, tasks and milestones in calendar
  • Added public registration form (Link: index.php?option=com_projectfork&section=users&task=form_register)
  • Added several copy settings (allows to create project templates) to projects section
  • Added ability to quickly update the task progress from within the task list
  • Added config quicklink (see top-right of the PF screen)
  • Added "Did you know" panel with over 50 random tips

And we have a DEMO SITE! Finally, after almost two years :)
